Nothing is more important for boosting your social media content than adding nice, catchy images. Images describe, explain and illustrate your ideas and your products. Images help you attract, engage and connect with your audience.

But, if you’re anything like me, you may have found it difficult to find exactly the right image to illustrate your content. I want my images to have an ‘edge’, so they can give my content that unique vibe. The trouble is, the best, most suitable images can be quite expensive, and I need to keep to a budget.

Fortunately, there are many people out there who are willing to share their creative work, either for free or for a one-off payment. I really appreciate their kindness, because it’s thanks to these amazing people that I can add nice, appealing images to my socials.

Kindness asks for kindness, so I’d like to share with you a list of 15 of the coolest websites I use to find my images. Now you have no more excuses for using those tired, out-of-date images!

A word of warning about licences.

Behind every image, there is technical expertise, skill and a good dose of creativity. Before using an image, be sure to double-check the licence, and acknowledge the author if requested.

When searching for free images, you can find three different licences. Be careful to check the type of image licence, because you could end up paying a high fee for an image that is not free to use.

CREATIVE COMMONS: This is a vast source of free information on the internet. The symbol (CC0) – creative commons zero, indicated stock images free for commercial and non-commercial use.

PUBLIC DOMAIN: These images are not covered by copyright law, and anyone can use, adapt and distribute them. If it isn’t clearly stated, check with the site owner whether or not the image is available in the public domain.

ROYALTY-FREE: You can use these images once you have paid a one-off fee. Once you’ve purchased these images, you can use them countless times.

REMEMBER – always read the small print before you download an image!
